Browse on Standard Narrations

You use this program to assign user-defined text to specific narration codes.

When adding or maintaining operations using the Structures and Routings program you can assign this text automatically to an operation by entering the four character narration code. This effectively enables you to assign the same text repeatedly to different operations.

Add Select this to add a new narration. See Standard Narration Maintenance.
Change Select this to use the Admin Notepad Editor (Monospaced Text) program to maintain the narration currently highlighted in the listview.

Standard Narration Maintenance

Field Description
Narration code

Indicate the narration code to which you want to assign standard narration text.

  • You can use the narration code within the Structures and Routings program to assign text automatically to operations, providing that you have selected the option: Standard narrations for operations (Bill of Materials Setup). If this option is not selected then you can still assign text to operations, but this must be entered manually for each operation.
  • If you selected the option: Structure narrations (Bill of Materials Setup) then you can also assign these standard narrations to your components. This is achieved when copying standard narrations within the Narrations function for the component.
Edit Text Select this to use the Admin Notepad Editor (Monospaced Text) program to capture narrative details you want to assign to the narration code.
Close Select this to return to the previous screen.

Listview columns

Column Description
Code This indicates the code allocated to the narration.
First line of text This displays the first line of the narration defined against the narration code.
Second line of text This displays the second line of the narration defined against the narration code.

Notes and warnings

Deletion considerations

  • You cannot delete a narration code which is currently in use against any of the following:

    • ECC Operations
    • BOM Operations
    • Quotation Operations
    • WIP Labor Allocations
    • Product Configurator Components
