Set ECC Control for Stock Code

You use this program to set Engineering Change Control on for a selected range of stock items. The alternative is to configure individual items to be ECC-controlled using the Stock Codes program.

Set ECC Control for Stock Codes

Field Description
Start Processing

Select this to set ECC control to the selected stock items.

Items which are in transit between warehouses or which are currently part of a stock take cannot be set to be ECC controlled.

If you selected to include all part categories, then Items with a part category of Notional part or Co-product (Stock Codes) are currently not set to ECC control.

Items with a part category of By-product can be set to ECC control.

Information These options enable you to indicate the stock items for which you want to configure ECC control.
Stock codes
Stock code selection Indicate the stock code(s) you wan to set as ECC controlled.
Product class
Product class selection

Indicate the product class(es) to which stock items belong for which you want to set ECC control.

Product classes are assigned to stock items using the Stock Codes program.
Part category selection
Part category

Indicate the part category within the stock items selected for which you want to set ECC control.

The part category is defined against the stock item (Stock Codes).

Set to use current (---/---) Set the revision/release against existing BOM (Bill of Materials) structures and/or sales orders to use the current revision/release instead of the revision/release defined using the ECC Set ECC Control for Stock Codes program.
BOM structures Select this to use the current revision/release for bills of materials structures.
Sales orders

Select this to use the current revision/release for sales order lines.

The revision/release against the sales order line is always set to use the current revision/release when the option for Sales order creation is set to Assume current rev/rel at time of shipping (Bill of Materials Setup) regardless of the selection you make here.

Engineering change control information The default wording displayed for the Revision/Release, but is replaced by whatever wording you have assigned to these user-defined fields (Bill of Materials Setup).
Revision Indicate the revision you want to set against the selected stock codes.
Release Indicate the release you want to set against the selected stock codes.
Use when stock code Rev/Rel is blank

Select this if you only want to apply the revision/release information entered here if a stock code's version and release field is blank.

If you do not select this option, then any version and release information held against a stock item is overwritten by your entries made above.

Retain history of jobs and allocations

Select this if you want to retain the revision/release held against existing jobs, lots and material allocations when you change a stock item to be ECC controlled. If you select this option, then a record is created for the stock code and existing revision/release in the Engineering Change Revision History file/table (ECCVER/EccRevHistory).

If you do not select this option, then the revision/release currently held against existing jobs, lots and material allocations is replaced by the revision/release you enter using the ECC Set ECC Control for Stock Codes program.

Hints and tips

Record amendments

  • You can generate a report of ECC revision/release changes to stock items if you enable the Amendment journals option (Inventory Setup).

Notes and warnings

Coding considerations

  • The implication of configuring a stock item to be ECC-controlled is that changes to that item within a Bill of Materials can only be made using an Engineering Change Order.

  • Engineering Change Control tracking information (revisions/releases) for an item is only retained from the time the item is set to be ECC controlled.
