Navigation Pane

You use this program to navigate the SYSPRO interface using customized menus. These menus can include links to SYSPRO programs, SYSPRO customized reports, Net Express programs, SRS reports and other applications.

If you are allowed to design menus, then you can create your own personal menus using this program. Alternatively, if you do not have access to the toolbar, you can still use menus that were created by the system administrator using the Design Menus program.

This program also includes functions to view a calendar and a list of recently accessed programs.

Toolbar and menu

Field Description
New icon Creates a new personal menu in the Navigation Pane.
Export icon Loads the Export Menus window so that you can export menus for deployment to other operators in your organization. This is useful when deploying the same or similar menus to a number of operators in the organization.
Import icon Loads the Import Menus window so that you can retrieve menus that have been exported.
Menu Information This window is displayed when you select to create a new personal menu.
Caption Enter the title of your new menu here.
Menu style  
Task panel This menu style launches applications as well as navigates to other menus or opens flow graphs from within your menu.
List view This menu style launches applications from within your menu. You can add categories to mimic folders that help you group your programs.
Icon id Indicates the id of the icon currently assigned to the menu (0 indicates no icon). Select the Change Icon function to assign an icon to the menu.

Recent Programs

This pane retains a list of the last 20 programs you have used, with the most recent program listed first.

You can configure the number of items you want to list in the pane using the Personalize program (SYSPRO ribbon bar->Home->Personalize). The last program run appears as the first entry in the list.

You can clear the list by right-clicking in the pane and selecting the Clear List option from the context menu displayed.

You can drag-and-drop programs from this pane onto the Favorites pane.

Calendar

This displays as many months as will fit in the available space, starting with the current month.

You can personalize the calendar using the Personalize program (SYSPRO ribbon bar->Home->Personalize).

Tile functions

Field Description
Properties  
Program Details View and maintain the details of the program this tile should launch.

If no program is linked to the tile (e.g. if it is a menu tile, or you created a blank tile) then the Add New Shortcut Wizard program is launched.

Title Indicate the title that should appear on this tile.
Tooltip Define a tooltip for the tile that will appear when an operator hovers the mouse pointer over the tile.

The tooltip can be text or an image.

A tooltip can be added programmatically with VBScript, using the Tooltip variable.

Attach Picture Assign an image to the tile.
Remove Picture Remove the image currently defined against the tile.
Action (Navigation Pane only).

You can set each tile to open another menu (or category) within the Navigation Pane, or to open a flow graph.

[Note]

If you define an action for program tile (i.e. a tile already set to launch a program) then the tile performs both actions when clicked (i.e. the relevant menu, category or flow graph is displayed and the specified program launches).

Item Height Use the slider to set the height of this tile.
Auto Fit Automatically resizes this tile to display all appearance settings correctly.
Macro Opens the VBScript Editor program.
[Note]

You cannot launch the program if you are in Design Mode for a role.

Appearance  
Icon Assign an icon to be displayed alongside the tile.
Style Assign a preset style to the icon.
Color

Define a color for the tile.

This option not enabled if the No XAML theme is selected.

Duplicate Appearance Apply the tile's appearance settings to all other tiles in the same category.
Duplicate Height Set all other tiles in the same category to the height of this tile.
Delete Delete the selected tile or category.
Undo Delete Restore the deleted tile or category.
Refresh  
Export/Import  
Export Tile in an Email Sends the tile as an attachment to your email client.
Save Tile As Save the file to a specific file location.
Export Menus Indicate the menus you want to export.
Import Tile Deploy a tile from a saved file.
Import Menus Deploy a menu from a saved file.
New  
Program Tile Creates a new tile within the current category and launches the Add New Shortcut Wizard program.
Menu Tile (Navigation Pane only).

You will be prompted to define an action for this tile. It can navigate to another menu in the Navigation Pane (and a category within that menu) or open a flow graph.

Blank Tile Creates a tile as a placeholder for future definition.
Category Create unlimited categories to help organise your tiles.
Layout  
Appearance Apply a preset style to the entire Navigation Pane or Favorites.
Item Width Adjust the width of all the tiles in the Navigation Pane or Favorites.
Item Margins Set the distance between tiles.
Auto Fit for all Items Automatically resize all tiles to display all appearance settings correctly.
Reset Layout Reset tiles to their default size.
Large Icons Set the icons displayed on each tile to a larger size.
Expand only Selected Category Only allows one category to be expanded at a time.
Suspend Refresh Events

Stop the refresh events from firing until it is unselected, or until you exit SYSPRO. The next time that you call up SYSPRO this option will have been unselected, and events will fire again.

Show Program Names in Tooltips Displays the program name in tooltips, even if tooltips are not defined.

Notes and warnings

Upgrading considerations

  • If you have upgraded from an earlier version of SYSPRO, then the MyMenu functionality appears on the Navigation Pane as an operator menu labelled: MyMenu.

Restrictions and limits

  • Any program that an operator cannot run from the main Program List is also restricted in the Navigation Pane. Similarly, any field that an operator is prevented from seeing in a program when run from the normal SYSPRO menu is also restricted here.

  • You cannot email the export file if you have not enabled the Fax/mail integration required option (Operators).

Activity considerations

Operator access to the following activities within this program can be restricted. You configure this using the Operators program.

Activity Description
Main menu - Allow to design menus Controls whether an operator can create or modify menus on the SYSPRO Desktop (including access to the Navigation Pane toolbar functions).

Enabling an operator to design menus

This enables you to allow an operator to design menus that can be deployed system-wide, company-wide, by role or by group. This functionality is typically reserved for System Administrators.

  1. Open the Operators program (SYSPRO Ribbon bar > Setup > Operators).

  2. Highlight the operator you want to maintain and select Change from the Edit menu.

  3. From the Security tab, select the Edit function at the Configure Activities field.

    The Edit function is enabled only if you chose List at the Selection field.

  4. Navigate to the Customization section and enable the option: Main Menu - Allow to design menus.

Creating a new menu in the navigation pane

  • You will be unable to use this function if the operator activity: Main Menu - Allow to design menus is not enabled for your operator code.

This enables you to construct your own menu of SYSPRO programs, SYSPRO customized reports, NetExpress programs, SRS reports and other applications.

  1. From the Navigation Pane toolbar, select the Create a new personal menu in the Navigation Pane icon.

  2. At the Caption field, enter a title for your menu.

  3. Indicate the style of menu you want to create (i.e. task panel or list view).

    • A task panel style menu enables you to navigate to other menus or open flow graphs from within your menu, as well as launch applications.

    • A list view style menu enables you to launch applications from within your menu.

  4. Optionally assign an icon to your menu.

  5. Select OK to create the menu shell in the Navigation Pane.

    You are now ready to assign programs and applications.

Creating a list view style menu

This creates a menu that launches programs, reports and applications. For additional functionality, like navigating to other menus or opening flow graphs, you need to create a task panel style menu.

  1. In the Navigation Pane, open a menu that has been defined as a list view style menu.

  2. Right-click the menu caption and select New Application.

    This launches the Add New Shortcut Wizard that will guide you through the process of adding your shortcut.

Creating a task panel style menu

This creates a menu that can navigate to other menus, open flow graphs, or launch programs, reports and applications.

  1. In the Navigation Pane, open a menu that has been defined as a task panel style menu.

  2. Right-click the menu caption and select New .

  3. Indicate the type of tile you want to create for this menu.

    • A Program Tile launches programs, reports and applications.

    • A Menu Tile navigates to other menus, or opens flow graphs.

    • A Blank Tile creates a placeholder to which you can assign an action at a later stage.

      [Note]

      You can not drag from the Task Panel to the Favorites or menus, but you can drag files from the Windows Explorer onto the Task Panel.

Exporting a menu

This exports menus you have created for deployment to other operators in your organization. This is useful when deploying the same or similar menus to a number of operators in the organization.

  1. Select the Export icon from the Navigation Pane toolbar.

    The Export Menus window is displayed with a list of menus available for export.

  2. Highlight the menu(s) you want to export and select the Export icon from the toolbar.

    The exported menu(s) are now ready to be imported by other operators within your organization.

Importing a menu

This retrieves menus that have already been created and exported. This is useful when deploying the same or similar menus to a number of operators in the organization.

  1. Select the Import icon from the Navigation Pane toolbar.

  2. Locate the menu file you want to import and select Open.

    The Import Menus window is displayed with a list of menus that are available for import.

  3. Highlight the menu(s) you want to import and select the Import icon from the toolbar.

    The imported menu(s) are displayed in your Navigation Pane.

Adding menu categories

This organizes your list view and tile menus in the Navigation Pane, and your tiles in the Favorites.

[Note]

You will be unable to add a category to a menu that has been deployed by an administrator.

For list view style menus in the Navigation Pane, categories help you to create a menu hierarchy.

  1. Open a menu in the Navigation Pane or a tile in the Favorites.

  2. Right-click the menu caption and select New and then Category.

  3. Enter a description for the category.

    You are now ready to arrange your menu items as required.

Changing the properties of a category

This changes the properties of a category in the Navigation Pane or Favorites. Changes range from entering text for the category title and assigning tooltip text that must be displayed when you hover over the category.

  1. From within the Navigation Pane or Favorites, right-click a category header and select Properties from the shortcut menu.

  2. Enter your preferred Title and Tooltip text from the submenu.

Changing the appearance of a category

This changes the visual styling of your menus in the Navigation Pane and Favorites. Options range from assigning an icon, changing the XAML theme and applying a color.

  1. From within the Navigation Pane or Favorites, right-click a category header and select Appearance from the shortcut menu.

  2. Select your preferred Icon and Style from the submenu.

    A live preview of the changed style is displayed as you move over the gallery items.

Adding program tiles

This enables you to add shortcuts to programs, reports or applications in the Navigation Pane and Favorites.

[Note]

You will be unable to add a program tile to a menu that has been deployed by an administrator.

  1. Right-click in the Navigation Pane or Favorites.

  2. Highlight New from the shortcut menu and select Program Tile.

    This will launch the Add New Shortcut Wizard that will guide you through the process of adding your shortcut.

Changing the properties of a program tile

This changes the properties of a program tile in the Navigation Pane or Favorites. Changes range from setting the height of the tile to attaching a picture and assigning a VBScript macro.

  1. From within the Navigation Pane or Favorites, right-click a program tile and select Properties from the shortcut menu.

  2. Choose and configure the property you want to change.

Changing the appearance of a program tile

You would typically follow this procedure to change the visual styling of your program tiles in the Navigation Pane and Favorites. Options range from assigning an icon, changing the XAML theme and applying a color.

  1. From within the Navigation Pane or Favorites, right-click a program tile and select Appearance from the shortcut menu.
