Docking panes

Docking panes are forms that you can move to different positions on the screen. They can be configured to float on their own, or contract to a tab so that more application workspace is available for other forms. Forms that have been contracted down to tabs will expand when the mouse pointer is positioned on them.

  • You can close forms completely. This can reduce the load on the workstation since any code against an event on a form that is closed is not executed and any processing that would normally occur does not take place.

  • If a window cannot show all the auto-hidden tabs, then a scroll button allows you to scroll up or down the auto-hidden panels.

  • You can change the appearance of docking panes by adding opacity which allows you to view forms behind any floating panes.

  • You can change a docking pane to a window and add a maximize button allowing you to expand a form to fill the space used by the adjacent forms.

  • Panes can be resized using a splitter bar that is activated when the mouse pointer moves over it.

  • You can maintain the position of the tabs on a pane, as well as change a tabbed pane to a form.

Docking stickers

Docking stickers appear when a form is being moved over a SYSPRO window. There are five docking stickers which assist you in docking the form to the correct location.

The exact location of the docking stickers depends on the layout of the program. If you have a query that contains a row of forms at the top of the screen, and one or more forms below this (e.g. Inventory Query) then the location of the docking stickers, as well as their function, will change as you move the floating form around the screen.

When a form's title bar is dragged over a docking sticker, the area where the form would be docked if you released it is highlighted in blue. You can continue moving it around the other docking stickers to see where they would dock the form if it were released.

You can double-click on the title bar of the floating pane to return it to the previous position.

Notes and warnings

Role-based considerations

  • If you are using roles, then the docking pane menu button is hidden and no specific menu is associated with the docking pane.

  • See Activity considerations in Notes and warnings.

Activity considerations

Operator access to the following activities within this program can be restricted. You configure this using the Operators program.

Activity Description
Save docking layout when using roles / industry / system-wide Controls whether operator changes to docking pane layouts are saved when the operator belongs to a role (Customization Management). This includes resetting the layouts for an application.

When using roles, changes to your personal view of the role are saved when you exit an application (e.g. pinning and unpinning panes and making changes to the splitter positions).

If access to this activity is enabled, then changes to the personal view of the role made by the operator are retained and displayed the next time the operator accesses that application. The system always attempts to load the operator's own docking layout first followed by any specifically designed role layout.

If access to this activity is denied, then any changes the operator makes to docking pane layouts are ignored once the operator exits the application. The standard role designed layout is restored when next the application is loaded.

This option does not apply to an Application Help Pane that has been added to a role.

Docking panes - do not prompt when removing windows

This applies to closing docking panes using the 'x' on the pane.

If this option is not enabled, then the operator is prompted to confirm the closing of the pane.

In addition, the operator can select not to be reminded again until logging in again. If the operator selects not to be reminded, the panes are automatically closed without warning. However, the next time the operator logs in, the prompt is displayed.

When this option is enabled, the operator is never prompted to confirm the closing of the pane.
